Yarn and Materials

The Atelier Saman Amel knitwear program utilizes only the absolute finest yarns to create garments of the absolute highest quality. Yarns are developed uniquely from scratch or sourced in close collaboration with local knitwear experts in Umbria, Italy. Each yarn passes through a thorough quality control process where fibers are inspected in great detail. Atelier Saman Amel works exclusively with natural materials and focuses on cashmere, silk, fine cottons as well as the exclusive vicuna fiber.

Craft and Origin

Atelier Saman Amel knitwear has been produced by the same family in the region of Umbria, Italy, for close to a decade. The region is known for its rich history and local expertise in knitwear and production of yarns. Located tucked away amongst rolling landscapes of agricultural land, the knitwear laboratorio works on century old machines that are hand operated and a majority of the work on the garments are made completely by hand.

The single unit production approach - producing each garment individually as opposed to mass production - ensures that every garment is made with purpose and with a “zero vision” for over-production otherwise commonplace in the clothing industry. With the laboratorio now running self-sufficiently on solar energy, the operation is to be considered fully circular.
